Effective Striking for Real-World Self Defence

At Esteem Self Defence, striking is taught for real situations, not sport or competition. Our focus is on simple, high-percentage techniques that work under stress, regardless of size, strength, or experience.

You’ll learn how to strike with purpose – to create space, escape danger, and protect yourself.

New to striking? You’re in the right place.

You don’t need to be strong, fast, or confident to start. We teach striking step by step, beginning with simple movements and building up gradually. You’ll never be expected to hit harder than you’re comfortable with, and all training is controlled and supervised.

Most people in their first class have never thrown a punch before — that’s completely normal here.

What We Teach

Our striking training includes:

Punches, palm strikes, elbows, knees, and low kicks

Defending against common strikes

Using strikes while being grabbed or pressured

Striking as part of escape and survival, not standing toe-to-toe

We prioritise speed, balance, and accuracy, rather than flashy combinations. Everything is pressure-tested in drills so you understand when and why to use each technique.

Most real confrontations happen quickly and at close range. Our striking training prepares you to react decisively, stay on your feet where possible, and disengage safely.
